DTI seeks to gauge effect of procurement policy

Pretoria (SA) – The Department of Trade & Industry has asked the textiles, clothing, leather and footwear (TCLF) sectors to help it gauge the effectiveness of the Preferential Procurement Policy Framework Act (PPPFA) in growing their industries. In terms of the PPPFA, all organs of government may only procure locally made clothing, textiles and footwear, made from locally made components.

The only exceptions allowed are where components or finished goods are not locally available. The DTI wants to know how many companies have benefitted from the Act, whether new firms have started or employment has increased on account of the Act, and what challenges the sectors have faced.
